Have you had a chance to watch the videos of this years WEC with with Michael Frost as the speaker? Wow - powerful message that probably made a lot of the DTS folks uncomfortable. Which is good. They need to be. I know he stretched me with his ideas, and the priority of a missional focus.

Good post Ryan. I am tired after 3 1/2 years. Long term sustainability as a pastor has to come from the source of Living Water. Amazing how guys like McArthur, Piper, etc do it so faithfully over the course of decades.

Hope all is well for you.

Comment on Why is the resurrection of Jesus Christ crucial to our faith? by Ryan

Adam...er Kitt,
I actually started out my lesson with John 20, the longest gospel narrative on the empty tomb. I asked the question, "IS the Resurrection Important?" I showed that John tries to prove against the arguments of his day that the resurrection really did happen, thereby indicating that the resurrection was indeed important to affirm. His three arguments/evidences:

a) A woman found the empty tomb first (which a made up story in 1st century Judaism wouldn't have done)
b) Two men were included as witnesses (which fulfilled the Jewish law's requirement for two male witnesses)
c) The linens were folded up (if Jesus' body had been stolen, they wouldn't have cleaned up after themselves)

I then examined the "why," which is what's above. Because of the nature of the gospels and the timeframe of their content, there's not much opportunity to answer the why (although I'm not saying it's not there), so I focused on the epistles.

Great List Ryan I'll have to take it for my next easter Sermon. But I noticed that you don't have any passages from the gospels themselves. I ran into similar issues as our understanding of the importance of the resurrection comes largly from the epistles, looking back on what happened. But we're not given a lot of interpretation from the gospels themselves (at least in working in Luke where I was working)

What do you think it meant to the first disciples other than "He's alive!"?

I found this on the internet. It's the singer's explanation of his song:

“You Found Me is a tough song for me. Its about the disappointment, the heart ache, the let down that comes with life. Sometimes you’re let down, sometimes you’re the one who lets someone else down. It gets hard to know who you can trust, who you can count on. This song came out of a tough time, and I’m still right in the thick of it. There’s some difficult circumstances my family and friends have been going through over the past year or so and can be overwhelming. It wears on me. It demands so much of my faith to keep believing, keep hoping in the unseen. Sometimes the tunnel has a light at the end, but usually they just look black as night. This song is about that feeling, and the hope that I still have, buried deep in my chest.”
